The National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV) propels Wine of Moldova on one of the world’s largest bulk wine importing markets and a strategic market for Moldova – China. 15 local winemakers, with ONVV’s logistic and financial support, participated on 30-31 of May at the first edition of “World Bulk Wine Exhibition ASIA” – the most important B2B exhibition on the Asian continent dedicated to bulk wine trade. The event presented an impressive offer of bulk wine – 19 million hectoliters, representing 55% of the globally available amount.
Reunited with other 200 producers from 20 countries, in Yantai City, the Moldovan winemakers had the opportunity to present their harvest at an impressive stand of 106 m². Moldovan producers interacted with the most important players on the global bulk wine market in order to identify potential importers and distributors. During the 2 days, the “World Bulk Wine ASIA” exhibition was visited by over 4,000 professionals from 35 countries.
In addition, at the stand of our country, the ONVV expert Andrian Digolean held a masterclass, where he presented the Republic of Moldova as a wine country, the indigenous grape varieties, as well as the Protected Geographical Indication regions, where Wine of Moldova is produced.
Andrian Digolean, B2B expert, National Office for Vine and Wine: “In 2018 one of the largest grape harvests was registered in Moldova, which led to a big volume of wine – about 19 million dal. The winemakers do not manage to export all their product in bottles, as wine in bulk accounts for 65% of total wine exports. That is why there are important stocks left, that producers are ready to sell in bulk. Bulk wine does not necessarily mean a low-quality wine, on the contrary – its quality is high. The demand for quality wines is growing steadily in China, and we believe we can capitalize even more on the import potential of a country with a population of 1.3 billion people. And one of the most effective tools to achieve this goal is to participate in such specialized B2B exhibitions, which are a gateway to this vast market.”
In the near future, the National Office for Vine and Wine will organize and finance the participation of Moldovan winemakers in another important B2B exhibition dedicated to bottled wines – “Top Wine China”, the only specialized exhibition to be held in Beijing in 2019. Over 12,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, including distributors and importers of the highest caliber from northern and eastern China.
The “World Bulk Wine” Exhibition is the world’s largest B2B bulk wine trade fair, which brings together for 2 days over 75% of the global bulk wine offer. The event is structured as an annual forum, where the most important players on the bulk wines market (producers, importers, distributors) meet, where the most important trade transactions are concluded and the trends in the sector are set.
Traditionally, WBWE is held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands – this year’s edition will take place between on 2-3 December, and ONVV has already announced the participation of Moldovan winemakers at this fair. Starting with 2019, the exhibition has a replica on the Asian continent as well – World Bulk Wine Exhibition Asia, the first edition of which is hosted by China, the world’s fifth largest importer of wines. The fair location was not chosen randomly – Yantai is the Chinese “capital” of bulk wine, through the port of which 135 million liters are imported annually, accounting for 80% of the volume of bulk wine consumed in the country.
WBWE Asia aims to connect global bulk wine producers with buyers in the Asian country, which has a massive potential of becoming one of the largest importers in this segment as well. Currently, 176 million liters of bulk wine are exported to China.
